The opportunity
Our tax practice revolves around helping our clients effectively manage their tax obligations proactively and responsibly. As part of a global team of 35,000 tax professionals in 150 countries, you will advise clients on planning, compliance and reporting wherever the client has needs. Our unwavering commitment to quality service and our technical networks enable you to help clients reduce inefficiencies, mitigate risk and improve opportunities within their tax functions. Groups (or, as we call them - sub-service lines) within Tax include Business Tax Services, Global Compliance and Reporting, Human Capital, Indirect Tax Services, International Tax Services and Transaction Tax Services.
As part of our International Tax and Transaction Tax team, you will advise companies on all tax aspects of their transactions and help clients to manage all aspects of a tax function, including acquisition structuring, holding structure set up and design as well as managing global tax risks and meeting cross-border tax obligations.
Your key responsibilities
- Provide a wide range of tax advisory services on international tax advisory engagements, tax structuring, cross-border/M&A transactions, and ad hoc projects;
- Address complex Hong Kong corporate tax and International tax issues and assists clients in strategically aligning different areas of taxation. Provide timely and high-quality services and work products that exceed client expectations;
- Help to build and maintain client relationships and demonstrate knowledge of client business;
- Develop and guide junior tax professionals by providing effective performance feedback and ensuring team responsibilities are consistent with skills and developmental goals;
- Build on technical competence by keeping up to date on trends, developments and technical authorities and apply them to moderately complex situations;
- Build strong internal relationships within the ITTS and broader tax teams and across other services;
- Contribute to the overall success of the team by developing a thorough understanding of EY methodologies and tools to enhance service delivery.
Skills and attributes for success
- Bachelor's degree and ideally a Professional accountancy qualification (accounting or tax);
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant tax experience, including tax advisory experience, gained from a professional services firm, Big 4 firm, or an in-house tax function;
- Experience in Hong Kong profits tax is required; exposure to BEPS-related initiatives, international tax would be highly desirable;
- Team player with strong oral and writing communication skills;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines;
- Experience working in international tax or on M&A transactions or cross-border transactions is preferred, but not essential.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Mandarin, Cantonese, or other languages would be an advantage.
