The Port of Oakland is currently recruiting for a Port Staff Accountant II. Under supervision, the Port Staff Accountant II performs a variety of professional accounting work of complex difficulty related to preparing and maintaining Port accounting records and reports. Incumbents also monitor financial records, perform analysis on assigned accounts and perform related work as required.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintaining subsidiary and control accounting records, applying theoretical knowledge and skills.
 - Analyzing fiscal transactions to ensure conformity and compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures and practices.
 - Preparing routine and special financial reports, involving statistics, legal requirements, cost accounting and data processing.
 - Assisting in the analysis of information and providing recommendations to management concerning the financial impact of data.
 - Assisting in the supervision of general accounting activities of the Port.
 - Reviewing and verifying the accuracy of input and output data.
 - Reviewing, analyzing and reconciling accounts.
 - Reviewing work of subordinate staff.
 - Serving as lead to accounting staff.
 - Assisting in development and maintenance of accounting systems.
 - Training staff on various operating systems and procedures.
 - Providing leadership, training and guidance to Port staff.
 - Performing other related work as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: The minimum requirements include graduation from an accredited college or university, with a Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or finance, or a closely related field which has included courses in accounting, plus two years of professional experience in governmental accounting.
Additional Requirements: This classification requires each incumbent to successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check, which will include a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment PE-2007 (10/01/03) (STA), prior to being considered for this position. In addition, the incumbent in this position will be required to complete and pass a U.S. Customs Airport Security Program Check (19CFR122.182). This status must be maintained for the duration of employment at the Airport.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of accounting principles, methods and procedures of Port accounting practices and procedures; principles and practices of computerized accounting systems, particularly those related to the processing of accounting information; general principles of budgeting and variance analysis; general business methods and procedures; modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
