Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance (SPAC) is currently seeking an Accountant I.
This is a Remote Position.

UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.
Primary Duties:
- Review award documentation to identify key data elements and award terms and conditions, to ensure information is reflected accurately in the financial system.
- Preparation of refunds documentation due to sponsors.
- Monthly review and reconciliation of specific general ledger assets accounts.
- Monthly review of outstanding expired awards.
- Work with department and staff to identify ledger discrepancies in financial records and financial system.
- Correspond with departments to resolve questions and issues.
- Support management with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Input and ensure information is reflected accurately in the financial system.
- Assist QA staff with accounting and auditing inquiries as needed and directed.
- Assist with the preparation of ad hoc reports.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of nine (9) credits in accounting.
Preferred Experience: Entry level to mid-level accounting knowledge of grants and contracts preferred.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers, and financial software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation.
Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
Hiring Range: $53,500 - $61,500 during six-month probationary period (Commensurate with education and experience)
